Larne Enterprise Development Company Ltc. (Ledcom) is the local enterprise agency for the Borough of Larne in Co. Antrim (www.ledcom.org).

Since 1997 there has been a sister-city relationship between the Borough of Larne and the town of Clover in York County, South Carolina. Recently this relationship has extended to the whole of York County (www.yorkcountygov.com).

In 1998, through the D.T.I international Secondment Programme, Ledcom’s Chief Executive (Ken Nelson) undertook a secondment with York County Economic Development Board in South Carolina (ycedb.com).

During that secondment Ken Nelson and the Director of York County Economic Development Board (Mark Farris) developed the idea of encouraging business and trade opportunities between Northern Ireland and the Carolinas on a “win-win” basis, which brought benefits to both regions.

This led to the development of a trade promotion initiative called the Carolinas Northern Ireland Trade Association (CANITA).
